Object history Heretsried ist eine Rodungssiedlung am Nordrand des �Rauhen Forstes�. Daran erinnert die silberne Reuthaue im Gemeindewappen. In einer Urkunde von 1242 wird die Pfarrkirche von Heretsried erwähnt, die dem hl. Martin von Tours geweiht ist. Es wird vermutet, dass die Kirche zunächst auf dem Kirchberg bei der abgegangenen Siedlung Hausen lag. Das Schwert des hl. Martin im Gemeindewappen deutet auf sein Patrozinium in der Ortskirche hin. Der Äbtissinnenstab bringt die enge Verbindung des Ortes mit dem Kloster Holzen zum Ausdruck. Marquard von Donnersberg vom nahegelegenen Monburg vermachte Heretsried dem Kloster, das noch im 18. Jahrhundert größter Grundherr im Ort war und die Ortsherrschaft innehatte. Seit 1978 bilden die ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinden Heretsried und Lauterbrunn sowie der Weiler Monburg die politische Gemeinde Heretsried.
