Object history
Deutsch: Das im Schutz der Burg Ortenberg entstandene Dorf war Sitz eines Landgerichts der Reichslandvogtei Ortenau. Das erste Siegel des Gerichts Ortenberg von 1488 zeigt bereits das „redende" Bild einer Burg, daneben einen aufgerichteten Löwen - wohl den pfälzischen, denn Ortenberg war mit der Hälfte der Ortenau damals an die Kurpfalz verpfändet. Siegel des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts enthalten im Wappenschild einen Adler und eine Burg, wobei der Adler sicher als Reichsadler gemeint ist, da die Ortenau wieder für dasReich ausgelöst worden war. Im 19. Jahrhundert ist ein geteilter Schild mit einer Kirche im vorderen und einem zunehmenden Halbmond mit Gesicht (wohl das Ortszeichen) im hinteren Feld üblich. Das heutige Wappen ist 1899 in Anlehnung an das Gerichtssiegel des späten 16. Jahrhunderts geschaffen worden.
