Object history
Deutsch: Hergiswil erhielt das Wappen 1905. Damals wollte der Regierungsrat Nidwalden alle Hoheitszeichen der Gemeinden auf dem Täfer des Regierungsratssaales anbringen lassen. Nachdem aber von einzelnen Gemeinden die groteskesten Entwürfe eintrafen, wurde Robert Durrer zum Kantonsheraldiker ernannt und ihm die Kompetenz übertragen, die letzten Gemeindewappen zu gestalten. Hergiswil hatte als Figur eine Gämse vorgeschlagen. Sie sollte wohl auf den nahen Pilatus hinweisen. Durrer übernahm diesen Vorschlag, ergänzte ihn aber insoweit, als er noch den Anfangsbuchstaben der Gemeinde ins Wappen setzte.
