Object history
Deutsch: Die Burg Kerpen wird im Jahr 1136 erstmalig erwähnt. 1689 sprengten französische Truppen Stadt und Burg. 1893 kaufte Johann Heinrich Dün die Burg, ließ den Bergfried mit Zinnen "verschönern" und baute das neue Wohnhaus. Die heutige Burg liegt in drei Terrassen auf einem Ausläufer des Höhenberges in Form einer Spornanlage. Gut erhalten ist die ehemalige Burgkapelle. Der Zinnenturm auf dem Dreiberg im Wappen, nimmt darauf Bezug. Die Burg war Sitz der Reichsherrschaft Kerpen, die die Landeshoheit über eine größere Zahl von Gemeinden zu der auch Kerpen gehörte ausübte. Deshalb wurde das Wappen der Reichsherrschaft Kerpen in Form eines Schildchens auf den Turm gelegt.
