English: SS guard women at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp unload the corpses of prisoners for burial in a mass grave. They were recruited for this work by the Allies who liberated the camp. A convoy of British soldiers surrounds the ditch. The former guards are punished by being forbidden to wear gloves, which would expose them to the risk of contracting typhus. Pictured: Elisabeth Volkenrath (1919-1945, executed in the prison in the German city of Hamelin on December 13, 1945), Anneliese Kohlmann (1921-1977, sentenced to two years in prison), Charlotte Pliquet, Ilse Förster (sentenced to 10 years in prison, released in December 1951), Frieda Walter (sentenced to 3 years in prison) and Magdalene Kessel.
(Magdalene Kessel). |
