Description

Das fürstliche Residenzschloss Sigmaringen war Verwaltungssitz der Fürsten Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Das Schloss steht auf den Fundamenten einer Burganlage, die erstmals 1077 bei der vergeblichen Belagerung durch Rudolf von Schwaben erwähnt wurde. Unter Graf zu Werdenberg wurde die Burg zwischen 1460 und 1500 zum Schloss umgebaut. Durch den Vertrag von Pfullendorf gelang das Schloss 1540 in den Besitz der Hohenzollern und Graf Karl I von Hohenzollern bezog das Schloss.

Das Schloss liegt im Naturpark obere Donau oberhalb eines Donaudurchbruches bei Sigmaringen.
