Die Abbildung zeigt die Druckverteilung, die beim Mundstück immer Hoch ist, beim Schallbecher gering.
- 1. Der Überdruckimpuls im Mundstück (beim Öffnen der Lippen) läuft bis zum Schallbecher.
- 2. Dort läuft er als Unterdruckimpuls retour zum Mundstück. An den geschlossenen Lippen wird es als wieder reflektiert und
- 3. läuft als Unterdruckimpuls wieder zum Schallbecher. Am Schallbecher wird dieser erneut mit einem vorzeichenwechsel reflektiert und
- 4. läuft als Überdruckimpuls zum Mundstück. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt sind die Lippen geöffnet, und der Impuls fängt verstärkt bei 1. an.
Nicht zylindrische (konisch) einseitig offenen Rohre können prinzipiell nur die ungeradzahligen Vielfachen von lambda/4 erzeugen.
