Object history
Deutsch: Die Entwicklung Kehls vom mittelalterlichen Fischerdorf zur Stadt, in die 1971 bis 1975 zehn umliegende Orte eingemeindet wurden, ist gekennzeichnet durch eine äußerst komplizierte politische Geschichte. 1774 erhob Markgraf Karl Friedrich von Baden die Festung Kehl zur Stadt. Das älteste Stadtsiegel, das ab 1829 nachweisbar ist, zeigt bereits das noch heute gebräuchliche Wappen. Dessen Tingierung stand ebenfalls im 19. Jahrhundert bereits fest. Der Anker symbolisiert die Lage der Stadt am Strom und dessen wirtschaftliche Bedeutung für Kehl. Für die Rosen gibt es keine Erklärung. Möglicherweise sind sie als bloße Schmuckelemente ins Siegel- und Wappenbild aufgenommen worden. Nach der Vereinigung von Dorf und Stadt Kehl im Jahre 1910 wurde das Dorfzeichen von Kehl-Dorf, ein vierspeichiges Rad, ins Stadtwappen übernommen unter Fortfall der beiden Rosen. 1934 kehrte man zum ursprünglichen Wappen zurück.
