Chris Boltendahl ja Peter Masson perustivat yhtyeen Grave Digger marraskuussa 1980. Yhtye toimi vuosina 1986-1987 nimellä Digger ja vuosina 1988-1991 nimellä Hawaii. Vuodesta 1991 alkaen yhtye on toiminut alkuperäisellä nimellään. [1][2]
