EXE (tiedostomuoto)

EXE (Executable file) on ohjelmatiedostomuoto tietokoneohjelman tallentamiseen. Käyttöjärjestelmä lataa tiedoston ja suorittaa siinä olevan ohjelmakoodin. Muotoa tukevia alustoja ovat DOS, Windows, ReactOS ja OS/2.

Alustat

DOS

16-bittisessä DOS:ssa käytössä oli MZ-tiedostomuoto ajettaville ohjelmille. Aiempi DOS:n tukema muoto oli 64 kilotavun COM-tiedosto.[1]

Windows

Windowsissa ajettavat ohjelmat käyttävät Portable Executable -muotoa, joka voi olla 32- tai 64-bittinen (PE+).

OS/2

OS/2:ssa käytetty LX-muoto oli 16-/32-bittinen.[2] LX-muoto oli lineaarinen 32-bittinen muoto kun taas NE-muoto oli 16-bittinen segmentoitu muoto.[3]

OS/2:n LE-muoto tuki 16-, 32- tai 64-bittistä konekieltä.
