একটি সরলরেখা, অপর একটি সরলরেখার ওপর দন্ডায়মান হলে তাদের উৎপন্ন সন্নিহিত কোণের মান ৯০° হলে প্রথমোক্ত রেখাকে দ্বিতীয় রেখাটির ওপর লম্ব বলা হয়। উপরের চিত্রে AB সরলরেখাটি CD সরলরেখার ওপর লম্ব। একে প্রকাশ করা হয় দিয়ে।[2] চিত্রে,<ABC=90° এবং <ABD=90°
