১৯৯৯ সালে, ব্রিটিশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউট ২০শ শতাব্দীর শ্রেষ্ঠ ব্রিটিশ চলচ্চিত্রের বিএফআই শীর্ষ ১০০ তালিকা তৈরি করতে ব্রিটিশ চলচ্চিত্র এবং টেলিভিশন জগতের ১০০০ ব্যক্তির মধ্যে জরিপ চালায়। ভোটারদের সর্বোচ্চ ১০০টি পর্যন্ত চলচ্চিত্র বেছে নিতে বলা হয়েছিল যেগুলি 'সংস্কৃতিগতভাবে ব্রিটিশ'।[1] তালিকায় দুটি আইরিশ চলচ্চিত্রও রয়েছে: মাই লেফট ফুট এবং দ্য কমিটমেন্টস।
