নাল (এসকিউএল)
নাল NULL একটা বিশেষ নির্দেশক, এসকিউএল বা স্ট্রাকচার্ড কুয়েরি ভাষায় ডাটাবেজে তথ্য নেই দেখাতে ব্যবহার হয় । রিলেশনাল ডাটাবেজ মডেলের উদ্ভাবক এডগার কড প্রথম ব্যবহার করেন । সব রিলেশনাল ডাটাবেজে "তথ্য না থাকার অথবা ব্যবহার অযোগ্য তথ্য " কে উপস্থাপনের ব্যবস্থা থাকা উচিত । কড ডাটাবেজ পাঠ্যসুচিতে গ্রিক চিহ্ন ওমেগা (ω) দিয়ে নাল কে উপস্থাপন করেন । বিশেষ মার্কার NULL কে নির্দেশ করতে এটি একটি সংরক্ষিত কীওয়ার্ড।
কোন প্রশ্নের "উত্তর না দেওয়া" অার প্রশ্নের উত্তরে "না" বলা একই বিষয় নয় । যেমন: "শাওনের কয়টি বই অাছে?" এর উত্তর হতে পারে "শুন্যটি" (কোনো বই নেই ) অথবা NULL ( অামরা জানি না শাওনের কয়টি বই অাছে ) । কোন ডাটাবেজ টেবলের কলামে এই উত্তরটা দেওয়া হবে NULL দিয়ে অার যতক্ষন জানা যাচ্ছেনা শাওনের কয়টি বই অাছে ততক্ষন সেই মান শুন্য দিয়ে হালনাগাদ হবে না ।
এস কিউ এল নাল কোনো মান নয়, একটি অবস্থা (অজানা)। বিভিন্ন প্রোগ্রামিং ল্যাংগুয়েজে এর ব্যবহার বিভিন্ন , যেখানে নাল মানে কোন একটা চলক এ ভ্যালু রাখা হয়নি ।
