আফ্রিকায় ইসলাম
আরবের বাইরে, আফ্রিকাই প্রথম মহাদেশ ছিল, যেখানে ইসলাম ৭ম শতাব্দীর গোড়ার দিকে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। বিশ্বের মুসলিম জনসংখ্যার প্রায় এক-তৃতীয়াংশ এই মহাদেশে বাস করে। মুসলমানরা বর্তমান জিবুতি, সোমালিয়া ও ইরিত্রিয়া অতিক্রম করে হিজরতের সময় ইথিওপিয়ায় আশ্রয়ের খোঁজে।[1] আফ্রিকার অধিকাংশ মুসলমান সুন্নি; আফ্রিকায় ইসলামের জটিলতা চিন্তার বিভিন্ন ধারা, ঐতিহ্য, এবং অনেক আফ্রিকান দেশের মত দ্বারা উন্মোচিত হয়। আফ্রিকান ইসলাম স্থবির নয় এবং ক্রমাগত প্রচলিত, সামাজিক, অর্থনৈতিক ও রাজনৈতিক অবস্থার দ্বারা রূপায়িত হচ্ছে। সাধারণত আফ্রিকায় ইসলাম প্রায়ই আফ্রিকার সাংস্কৃতিক প্রেক্ষিতে অভিযোজিত হয়।

২০০২ সালের হিসাব অনুসারে, আফ্রিকার মোট জনসংখ্যার ৪৫% মুসলিম।[2] উত্তর আফ্রিকায় ইসলামের একটি বড় উপস্থিতি রয়েছে। এছাড়াও হর্ন অব আফ্রিকা, সোয়াহিলি কোস্ট ও অনেকাংশ পশ্চিম আফ্রিকা ইসলাম আছে। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় সংখ্যালঘু কিন্তু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অভিবাসী জনগোষ্ঠী রেয়েছে।
