Джэрард Петэр Койпер (7 снежня 1905 - 23 снежня 1973) — нідэрландскі і амерыканскі (з 1933 года) астраном. З 1935 па 1937 гады працаваў у Гарвардскай абсерваторыі. Адкрыў спадарожнікі Урана - Міранду (1948), Нептуна - Нерэіду (1949), вуглякіслы газ у атмасферы Марса, атмасферу ў спадарожніка Сатурна - Тытана. Вядомы таксама спробамі вызначыць дыяметр Плутона, параўноўваючы яго тэлескапічныя выявы з штучнымі дыскамі. Склаў некалькі дэталёвых атласаў фатаграфій Месяца. Выявіў шмат падвойных зорак і белых карлікаў.
