Empezó la so carrera nos años 1940, actuando en papeles menores, nes películes: "The Boy with Green Hair" y "Flamingo Road". Ye famosu por ser el protagonista la serie western "A Tale of Wells Fargo", onde interpretó a Jim Hardie en 201 capítulos. Como convidáu, actuó en The Red Skelton Show, Death Valley Days, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Dinastía (13 capítulos), Dallas (5 capítulos), Matt Houston, Murder, She Wrote y munches más. Tamién protagonizó la serie El Caballu de Fierro (The Iron Horse), interpretando a Ben Calhoun, responsable del diseñu y construcción de la llinia transcontinental del ferrocarril (Union Pacific).

Finó a los 89 años el día 26 de febreru de 2013[5][6] nel Scripps Memorial Hospital de La Jolla, San Diego, California por causa de un cáncer de pulmón y una neumonía.
