ኔልሰን ማንዴላ ዘረኛውን የደቡብ አፍሪካ መንግስት በመቃወማቸው ለ27 ዓመት እስር ቤት ማቀዋል። ከእስር ቤት እንደተለቀቁም የመጀመሪያዋ የነጻይቱ የደቡብ አፍሪካ ፕሬዚዳንት ሊሆኑ በቅተዋል። ማንዴላ 94 ዓመታቸውን በዛሬዋ ዕለት አከበሩ።
