Steve Kekana
Tebogo Steve Kekana (4 Augustus 1958 - 1 Julie 2021)[1] was 'n Suid-Afrikaanse sanger en liedjieskrywer. Hy het sy musikale loopbaan in die 1980's begin. Hy het sy studie aan UNISA voltooi.[2]
Lewe en loopbaan
Kekana is in Zebediela, Transvaal gebore. Hy verloor sy sig op vyfjarige ouderdom en gaan skool by 'n skool vir blindes in Pietersburg. Gedurende sy skooljare het hy 'n liefde vir musiek en sang ontwikkel en word gedurende sy tienerjare lid van amateurgroepe.
In 1979 en 1980 het Kekana die destydse SABC Black Music-toekenning vir die beste manlike sanger gewen. Kekana's Raising My Family was 'n groot treffer in Europa in 1980. Kekana het altesaam meer as veertig albums opgeneem.[3] Sy liedjies "The Bushman" en "Feel So Strong" (met Hotline) was treffers op die Springbok Radio Chart (die destydse semi-amptelike Suid-Afrikaanse trefferslys) wat onderskeidelik in 1982 en 1983 nommer 13 en nommer 6 bereik het.[4]
Hy het saam met Ray Phiri, Nana Coyote, Joe Nina en Hotline (met PJ Thandeka Powers) opgetree.
Steve Kekana was 'n gegradueerde in B Juris en LLB. Hy was 'n advokaat en lektor in arbeidsreg aan die Universiteit van Suid-Afrika.
Hy het op 1 Julie 2021 weens Covid-19 gesterf.[5]
