Gustav Heinrich von Bongard
Augustus Gustav Heinrich von Bongard (12 September 1786, Bonn – 1839) was 'n Duitse plantkundige, wat in St. Petersburg in Rusland gewerk het. Hy was een van die eerste plantkundiges om nuwe plante wat destyds in Alaska (toe nog onder Russiese eienaarskap) ontdek is, te beskryf. Dit sluit spesies in wat nou van groot kommersiële belang is, bv. Sitka Spruce en Red Alder. Die monsters wat hy beskryf het, is meestal deur Carl Mertens by Sitka, Alaska, versamel. Die plant genus Bongardia (familie Berberidaceae) word tot sy eer na hom vernoem.[1]
