Voorkoms

Die slang se kleur wissel van gryslof tot donkerbruin of swart met klein, driehoekige patrone op die lyf en 'n donker pylvomige patroon op die driehoekige kop. Die slange se lengte wissel van 30 - 60 cm.

Gif

Die gif is senuvergiftigend (neurotoksies) met 'n spesifieke uitwerking op die optiese en gesigsenuwees. Dit veroorsaak 'n tydelike verlies van smaak en reuk, duiseligheid en ooglede wat hang. Slagoffers sterf nie van die gif nie maar mediese behandeling is nodig. Soos ander adders is die gif ook weefselvernietigend (sitotoksies).[2]
